About Me

Over 20 Years of Yoga Practice

Wanting to manage my stress levels is how I found yoga. I went to my first yoga class, over 20 years ago. Back then, I very much lived to work. Although fortunate enough to enjoy my work, being a finance manager, looking after teams of people, wasn’t without its stresses and long hours..

Thank goodness that my first step into yoga was with a wonderful teacher who taught Dru Yoga. In my experience, getting the most from yoga is about finding a yoga teacher you can relate to AND finding a style of yoga that suits you.

When I first started practicing Dru Yoga I loved the strong postures. The stronger the better to keep my stress levels in check!

However, my teacher training and extensive practice over the years has made me realise that, alongside physical exertion, slowing down, taking time out and allowing ourselves to rest is also great for stress reduction.

I still love the strong postures, even better if combined into a sequence. But I’ve really developed an appreciation for the postures that require less exertion. Ones that give us time to focus on our breath.

Dru Yoga sessions typically end with a seated or lying down guided relaxation, with the lights turned down low to create a restful atmosphere.

With practice movement and breath naturally sync into a moving meditation. It’s then that you arrive at the “sweet spot”, when the mind is completely quiet and you lose yourself in the moment.

Other activities, like tae-kwon-do and dancing, have come and gone but yoga has been a constant in my life for all these years, along with a love of nature.

Over 10 Years of Teaching Yoga

I graduated as a Dru Yoga teacher in 2010. I did my 200 hour teaching qualification, over 2 years, at the International School of Dru Yoga’s residential training centre in Snowdonia, North Wales.

This 200 hour qualification is accredited by Yoga Alliance, the largest internationally recognised yoga organisation in the world.

I am a member of the Dru Professional Network. To be a member I undertake continuous professional development. Over the years I have attended numerous workshops and courses.

In 2023 I achieved Dru’s 50 hour Postgraduate Certificate in Backcare & Well-being for Social Prescribing.

And I qualified as a Dru Breath Coach.

I also gained Level 1 (30 hour) and Level 2 (15 hour) Postgraduate Certificates in Yoga Nidra (yogic sleep / deep relaxation), both accredited by Yoga Alliance.

About Dru Yoga

The Second Largest Yoga Training School in the UK

Dru Yoga is a therapeutic, accessible type of yoga. It is at the gentler end of the yoga spectrum, designed to be practised by people of all abilities, fitness levels and age groups.

Maintaining a healthy, flexible spine is a key focus of Dru Yoga.

Working with the heart, to stabilise emotions and encourage self care, is also a key focus of Dru Yoga.

Dru Yoga has its roots in hatha yoga and includes classical yoga postures (asanas), breathwork (pranayama), deep relaxation,
Energy Block Release sequences (EBRs), powerful, energising sequences, gentle, graceful, flowing sequences, visualisations and empowering affirmations.

EBRs are easy to practice, flowing movements that help to release tension held in the body.

The graceful, flowing Dru Yoga sequences resemble Tai Chi due to joints being relaxed and soft during movement.
